Write Down What You Don’t Want to Miss

Making the Most of the Winter Season and Beyond

Yesterday, I was talking to my mother, who has dementia and is now in hospice because her body is shutting down in many different ways. She’s losing her ability to walk, to see, to feed herself and to walk. Often, she doesn’t make much sense with what she says.

Sometimes, I choose to talk to her as if she understands everything I’m saying.

I have found that every so often she will respond with something I call a soul message.

When I was talking to her about next year, and things I wanted to do, all of a sudden, she said:

Write down what you don’t want to miss.

It didn’t make much sense with what we were talking about, but it was such good advice, it made me pause.

That happens to be exactly the approach I took last year when I was setting goals. For me, I didn’t want to miss my niece’s wedding, my youngest son’s graduation, and my oldest son’s wedding.

I also didn’t want to miss spending time with my mother, even though it is hard to see her declining. I visit her in her memory care facility every other day.

The funny thing is that I was feeling that maybe I should have accomplished more in 2024.

When I realized I did everything that mattered most to me, I took a breath, and said yes, I made the right choices.

How will you choose to live in the year ahead?

I believe strongly in the power of setting intentions, visualizing, and manifesting what we desire.

I also think, we think we are capable of creating miracles, and choosing habits that create more harmony in the world.

Next Saturday in our winter solstice retreat, I will be leading a retreat to practice manifesting, creating miracles and choosing our harmony habits to live out of our highest self. If it sounds helpful to you, there is still time to sign up for the 2024 â€‹Winter Solstice retreat.

But if you’re only go do one thing to plan for next year, listen to my billing 94 year old mother’s advice:

Take the time to write down what you don’t want to miss.

Then make your most important goals happen. When next year is done, you can feel deeply satisfied that you listened to your soul.

May you have a deeply satisfying and soulful winter and year ahead!
